High or Low
Episode # 129. Bells
In a very small square box, the children give the Storypeople a small handbell. Mr. Man finds the handbell and begins to ring it. Others come and they want to ring a bell, too. So the children give them three more bells, each a different size. Hear the different sound each bell makes?

Directions
Experiment with your child so she can begin to associate size with pitch (small equals higher, big equals lower). Let her "play" or hear various "instruments". The instruments can be real (e.g., keys on a xylophone, violin/viola/cello, the strings on a piano), or created (tapping on empty boxes of different sizes, blowing across an empty bottle, lightly tapping on glasses of different sizes, etc.). Then make the experience into a game by asking your child to predict whether a pitch will be high or low before it is played.
Talk About It
While viewing the Bells episode, you might start a conversation by asking your child: "Can you make a sound like a bell? Are you a big bell or a small bell?"
As you talk about the things on screen, you can help expand your child's vocabulary by alternating the words you use with their synonyms. In the Bells episode you might describe Mr. Man's bell as small or tiny. As additional bells appear, you might introduce superlatives: e.g., big, bigger, biggest.
