Directions
Together with your child make drawings of all the places in your home where someone could sit. After you each finish a drawing, see if you can guess what the other drew. Does your child know the various names of all the different kinds of furniture? Does he know that some people have a couch and that other people call it a sofa? Can he describe the differences between an office chair, a kitchen chair and a stool, or an armchair and a recliner?

As you both look at many different kinds of places to sit, help your child notice what is the same about each and what is different.

Talk About It
While viewing the Couch and Cushion episode, you might start a conversation by asking your child: What would you do if all your dolls or stuffed animals or siblings wanted to sit on the same chair? How could you make room for everyone?

As you talk about the things on screen, you can help expand your child's vocabulary by alternating the words you use with their synonyms. In the Couch and Cushion episode, you can say that Sister and Brother sit on the cushions or the pillows.
