Together with your child, pretend to be jack-in-the-boxes. Squish down tight. Let your child "wind" you. Then spring up. Switch roles.
Look around your home. What other things have springs and how do they work?
Talk About It
While viewing the Jack-in-the-Box episode, you might start a conversation by asking your child: Mrs. Lady is winding the jack-in-the-box. What other kinds of things do we wind? How can you tell when Jack is going to pop up?
As you talk about the things on screen, you can help expand your child's vocabulary by alternating the words you use with their synonyms. In the Jack-in-the-Box episode, you can describe "Jack's" movement with the words bounce or spring and ask your child "What other meaning(s) to you know for "spring"?
