Directions
Put on some music and dance with your child. At varying intervals, stop the music. When the music stops, dancers freeze. When the music starts again, so does the dance. Be sure to let your child take a turn controlling the music and watching you dance and freeze. Note: Three year olds may not be able to totally freeze, but they can stop their movement. Most five and six year olds are able to freeze in position.
Talk About It
While viewing the Record Player episode, you might start a conversation by asking your child: Which of the Storypeoples' records will play for the longest time? How do you know? If you could invent a machine to play music, what would it be like? What kind of music would it play?
As you talk about the things on screen, you can help expand your child's vocabulary by alternating the words you use with their synonyms. In the Record Player episode, you might call the gift to the Storypeople a record player or phonograph or turntable.
