Directions
Teach your child the word "tempo" - the word we use to refer to speed when we are talking about music. Put on some music and ask if the tempo is fast or slow. Together, make up your own dance to the music. Or encourage your child to make up a dance and teach you the steps.
When you are tired from dancing, find some special, relaxing music that signals nap-time or bedtime. Play (or sing) the gentle music every day at bedtime or naptime to help children relax and transition from activity to sleep.
Talk About It
While viewing the Musical Pipe episode, you might start a conversation by asking your child: Have you ever seen a musical instrument like the one that Mrs. Lady plays? Where? What did it sound like? What other instruments do you know? What do they sound like? If your child imitates an instrument, you might help him name what they do, e.g., "You made a toot sound, like a trumpet!"
As you talk about the things on screen, you can help expand your child's vocabulary by alternating the words you use with their synonyms. In the Musical Pipe episode you might describe Mrs. Lady's instrument as a flute or a pipe.
