Challenge #9: The GREAT AMERICAN BACKYARD CAMPOUT™ (GABC)

The GREAT AMERICAN BACKYARD CAMPOUT™ (GABC) is held each year on the fourth Saturday of June.
This one-night event encourages families, youth and individuals to camp out in their backyards or local parks and to discover the fun of being in the great outdoors. Backyard Jungle is happy to partner with the National Wildlife Federation to promote this great summer event for the whole family!

Challenge #8: Ants Come Marching One by One

Ants communicate using chemical messages (scents) that biologists call pheromones. When one ant finds a bit of food, all the other ants follow the exact same path to get to the snack.
This activity, brought to you by The San Francisco Exploratorium, shows why.

Challenge #7: Moon Watch!

Want to know when the next full moon is? Keep a moon journal and you'll know.
This lunar activity is being brought to you by The San Francisco Exploratorium and Backyard Jungle.

Join volunteers around the world in the great Backyard Bird Count! Find different kinds of birds, add them to your backyard, and see the birds other members find.

Challenge #3

  • Put 10 different kinds of Discoveries in your Backyard. For example, put a mammal, a bird, an amphibian, a fish, an insect, a reptile, a mushroom, a worm, a tree, and a natural event. (There are 16 different kinds of Discoveries you can put in Backyard Jungle, so see if you can find 10 outside and take pictures or draw them and put them in!)

Challenge #2

  • Use a series of 4 Discoveries to show something changing over time. For example, this can be something growing, or it can be a picture of the same thing in four different seasons of the year. Make sure you take pictures or draw things you really see changing or growing outside.

Challenge #1

  • See if you can find another member in your State and send them a message!
