The Colosseum

The Colosseum: Rome, Italy
Wow –– this place is huge! It's called the Colosseum because there once was a gigantic statue (or "Colossus") nearby. In ancient Roman times (about 2,000 years ago!) 50,000 people could watch entertainment here all day long, from wild animal shows with elephants and lions to fierce gladiator battles.
