Remember The Lousy Week, when an army of lice descended on Francine and Muffy and the heads of just about everyone at Lakewood Elementary? Well, having head lice is very common. Millions of people get it every year. Having head lice doesn't mean you're dirty -- you were just in the wrong place at the wrong time, and some lice decided to take up residence in your hair.

An adult female louse is about the size of a sesame seed.
Sometimes it's hard to tell head lice from other things in hair (like dandruff, dirt, or other bugs). If you do suspect that you or your child has head lice, check with your health care provider for his or her recommendations.
