Buster's Asthma Tips
I have asthma, so sometimes the airways in my lungs swell up, and it gets hard for me to breathe. I can still do all the regular kid stuff, like eat pizza and hunt dangerous snakes. I just need to take my medicine and do what the doctor tells me.
If you have asthma, here are some ways to make it easier to breathe in your home.
- Ask people not to smoke around you or in your house so you don't have to breathe in their secondhand smoke.
- Wash your sheets, blankets, and stuffed toys often to help keep dust mites away.
- Keep your pets off furniture and out of rooms where you sleep. Down, Pal, down!
- Help keep things clean and dry around the house to stop mold from growing. Yuck!
- If you spill food, be sure to clean it up, because pests like cockroaches love food! (Cool! I've got something in common with a cockroach.)
- Since plain ol' dust gets me every time, my mom makes sure to dust and vacuum the house pretty often.
Talk to your doctor for more information.
Your friend,
PS: I got these tips from a sheet called "Clear Your Home of Asthma Triggers." It's published by the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA).
