  3. Why do I hear a narrator when I watch ARTHUR on TV?

You are listening to the Descriptive Video Service version of ARTHUR. If you look in the manual for your TV set, you should be able to turn it off. Descriptive Video Service, or DVS, is an access feature developed at WGBH. It is designed to help blind or low-vision viewers understand and enjoy television broadcasts. Many PBS programs are broadcast with DVS, including ARTHUR. To find out more about ARTHUR's accessibility features, check out Accessible ARTHUR.

We tape these segments with kids from schools in the Boston area because that's where we're located. Unfortunately, we have created all the And Now A Word From Us Kids spots that we need right now, but we appreciate your asking about them!

  7. How do I send an e-mail to Arthur or one of his friends?

You can send an e-mail to Arthur or one of his friends, care of WGBH, through our Arthur's Mailbox contact form.

  8. How is the TV show made?

WGBH/Boston and Cookie Jar Entertainment Inc. produce the TV show. Marc Brown works along with them as Executive Creative Producer. The scripts are written with great care by a team of writers, edited through two drafts, and then animation artists in Canada turn them into cartoons. The people who do the voices read the scripts, and the animators match the voices to pictures they draw. There are thousands of pictures that make up each episode. The segments between the stories, "And Now A Word From Us Kids," are filmed by WGBH, who also puts the whole show together. Every show includes Closed Captions and Descriptions for viewers who may have trouble hearing or seeing.

  9. Can I get an autographed picture of Arthur and his friends?

We don't have any Arthur pictures or autographs to send, but here's how you can make your own picture! If you go to the Friends section of the site, you'll find links to homepages for all of the ARTHUR characters. Every character's homepage includes a link to that character's coloring page. Click on the coloring page link and that will take you to a picture to print out and color. You can also access all of the character coloring pages through the Coloring Page Index in the Print area of the site.
