Arthur's Tooth
Tooth Truth
Talk teeth and make a toothbrush holder

Materials
  • clay (self-hardening or bake-able)
  • paint supplies
  • pencil
Directions
Here is a good opportunity to enforce healthy dental habits. Chat with your children about teeth, and help them make a cool toothbrush holder.
  1. Discuss: Invite children to share their knowledge and questions about these and other toothy topics: When do kids start losing their baby teeth? What happens after you've lost a baby tooth?
  1. Create: Help children make tooth-shaped toothbrush holders out of clay. For each holder, use a wide pencil to form a hole for the toothbrush, and etch the child's name on the bottom. Children can paint their creations when dry or baked. (Follow your clay's instructions.)
Talk About It
Discuss, enforce, and model good dental habits with your children. Talk about the fact that everyone needs to visit the dentist -- kids and adults alike!

Take It Further
Have a special informational visit with your dentist or dental hygienist. She or he may be able to give you posters to hang up at home, or safe props for dramatic play.
