Summer Plans
Compile ideas for summer activities
Materials
- art supplies
- hole punch
- paper
- ribbon or string
Directions
Create a collection of exciting activities to try over the summer.
- Brainstorm: Ask your children what they like best about summer and what some of their favorite summer activities have been. Record their responses on paper.
- Make a list: Together, create a list of things to try this coming summer. The only rules are that the activities require no long distance traveling and very little money. Suggestions might include things like learning sign language, making a bird feeder, inventing a board game, writing a poem, or listening to new music.
- Illustrate: Have your kids describe and illustrate their ideas to create pages for a family "summer fun" book.
- Bind: Bind the pages of your book by punching holes along the left sides and tying them together with ribbon or string. Refer to the book often during the summer months.
Take It Further
Check out some activity books for kids, such as:
- The Great Games Book: More than 30 Popular Games from Around the World to Make and Play by Susan Adams
- 50 Simple Things Kids Can Do to Save the Earth by The Earthworks Group
- The Science Chef by Joan D'Amico and Karen Eich Drummond
With a Group
Compile a group "summer fun" book and make copies for children to share with their families.
