Renovate a Room
Imagine redecorating a bedroom
Materials
- art supplies
- craft materials (clay, spools, cardboard, etc.)
- glue
- paints and brushes
- scraps (pieces of trim, wallpaper, fabric, etc.)
- shoeboxes
- stamps and ink pads
Directions
Let your children revel in some interior design!
- Brainstorm: Talk with your children about what they would do if they could design their own bedrooms. Ask: If you could design your bedroom to be just the way you wanted, what would it be like? Would it have a bed that looks like a racecar? A bunk bed? A sandbox? A playhouse? What colors would it be? Encourage children to brainstorm lots of different ideas, both practical and far-fetched.
- Design: Invite your children to make "home decorator" collages from scraps of fabric, trim, or wallpaper, and different-colored paints. Older children can build shoebox bedrooms by painting or wallpapering the walls of their boxes, building furniture with craft materials, and decorating with fabric and ink stamps.
Take It Further
Find out what children would do if they could redesign other rooms. Maybe they have ideas for their classrooms at school, or for the doghouse!
