Hand Shadows
Make your own shadow theater
Materials
- slide projector or flashlight
Directions
With a little light, you can show your children how to have fun playing with shadows.
- Set up: Set up an empty slide projector, or use a flashlight beam. Aim the light at a wall. (With some slide projectors, you may need to place an empty slide mount in the slot.)
- Play: Have your children use the light beam to make hand shadows. To help them learn about shadows, ask: Can you figure out a way to make your hand shadow smaller? Can you make your hand shadows touch without having your real hands touch? Can you make your hand shadow look like an animal? What kind of animal?
With a Group
Encourage children to perform a 'shadow play' by shaping their hands to make different creatures and making up a story as they go along.
