Float a Boat
Construct toy boats and set sail
Materials
- art supplies
- clay
- colored paper
- scissors
- toothpicks
- wooden clip clothespins (with the metal springs removed)
- wood glue
Directions
Help your children make toy boats and launch them in water.
- Make the boat: Glue the two halves of a clothespin together so that a hole remains near the center.
- Make the sail: While the glue is drying, cut a 2-inch-square sail out of paper. Insert a toothpick through the bottom and top of the sail.
- Place the mast: Place clay into the hole in the boat and insert the mast (toothpick).
- Decorate: Children can decorate their boats and masts with colored pens, paint, etc.
- Launch: Launch the boats in a basin or in the bathtub. Blow on the sails and see how the air affects the movement.
