Arthur Read's Byline Picture Ah, winter.

Snow. Icy winds. Long, dark nights. Ten layers of clothing, and you can still feel the wind blow right through you.

But that's what MY winter is like. Maybe YOUR winter is different.

In Elwood City, it's 38 degrees and windy. But if you live in southern California, it's 76 degrees and sunny. In Miami, Florida, it's 80 degrees, and it never EVER snows! (Well, it did in 1977, but that was 28 years ago.) And in Honolulu, Hawaii, people can surf in the winter because it's 79 degrees with a light breeze!

Of course, if you live in Nome, Alaska, it's only 12 degrees. I'm not sure if they ever get to surf there.

My friend Prunella loves winter. Find out how she marks the Winter Solstice and about some other holiday celebrations. (And while you're there, send out some holiday e-cards!)

FEATURED ARTICLE: Prunella's Predictions
By Prunella the Great Prognosticator

Prunella the Great Prognosticator's Byline Picture Here are my top five predictions for 2006:

1. While watching a ski jump competition during the 2006 Winter Olympics on TV, someone somewhere will say, "Oh, yeah...I could do that."

2. In the summer, when it's really hot, you will meet someone who can't stop saying, "Whew, it's really hot."

3. At least once when you jump into a swimming pool this year, water will go up your nose and it will feel really weird.

4. When school starts next September, you'll think to yourself, "Wow! That was a short summer."

5. At first you will not believe my predictions. But once they start coming true, you will know I was right!
