taikoThe word "taiko " means "great drum," and can refer to any of the different Japanese drums. These drums can be anywhere from one to nine feet wide. (That's a big drum!) Taiko drummers stand or kneel and hit their drums with mallets. Japanese drumming used to accompany ritual music or classical theatre. Now the word "taiko" often refers to group drum performances.
